Since going active just hours before Christmas Day here in Colorado, Thierry FT8WW has been past elusive on CW, and hasn’t been on SSB at all. As of his latest FT8WW Online Log Update, he’s run 89% of his total contacts on FT8 – with only 0.4% CW to North America.
That’s 30 CW Q’s with ALL of North America in just under 6 days, sigh…
And now via the long path over Japan – there’s at least 31…

Good luck catching FT8WW on CW or Phone – he’s a tough one, on the long path – via a short window!

Congratulations on your CW contact!
Well done Wayne
1/30 very impressive
It’s Thierry’s operation. He can do whatever he wants. He owes us nothing. If I want to work him it’s up to me. If not I can wait for the next guy to go there. I had Crozet on 20m SSB already. I needed it on CW and Digital. I now have worked FT8WW on two bands of Digital. I had a shot at him on 20m CW last night but I got to the party too late. He QRT’d to do his morning logbook update. I believe Thierry is very limited by the rules of this place. So he is doing what he can within those limitations to give as many operators an ATNO as he can. Once he’s cut those number down he might spend more time doing CW and SSB. It’s up to him. It’s his show.
Their Facebook page stated their intentions very differently than what is happening:
“The whole team is studying the best solution for the best antenna possible, taking into account these constraints. Thierry is still in touch with the authorities to optimize this point.
Propagation is getting better, we are certain we will give an ATNO to many. All the equipment are doubled, some tripled. With the help of the DX community, we will bring what is best. CW and SSB will be the priority. FT8 will be mostly for low bands if we can install an 80m dipole, and for far away areas (US West coast mainly)
Crozet will not be a 5-star hotel next to the beach with palm trees, on a Pacific island. Stay tuned !

Me thinks their are a lot of people who donated because that is what they said they would do.
FT8WW Sponsors.
It is what it is, but I can plainly see why the frustration on the Clusters and Internet Forums when you state your operation is primarily a CW/SSB operation, but turns out that FT8 holds 7410 of 8662 – 86% of the total Q’s (SSB at 0% and CW at 14%).
And other than Bouvet next month, this type of action is why I no longer donate upfront to ANY DXpedition since FT8. I’d rather wait until after.
Happy New Year Stevo!
Happy New Year 2023 to you and your XYL! Wishing you Health, Happiness, & Prosperity 🥳
Lumpy, Tnx for the tips and now W7RF is in the log on BRAIN DECODE CW!
A mode to be proud of working him on.
I will NEVER give my contacts over to a computer to do! How can one have any pride in a computer to computer contact when the main operator skill is clicking a mouse?
